The Gateway to Milwaukee Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary
For those of you who don’t know the story behind The Airport Gateway Business Association (AGBA)…It was founded in May 2005 by Alderman Terry Witkowski and a few business owners in the airport area. The group organized around a deep-rooted passion and desire to develop the surrounding area and improve economic development. They mapped out their ideas on a napkin at a local café, and what started out as a conversation over lunch, has developed into a local Business Improvement District that has seen many positive and tangible results over the past 10 years.
We celebrated our 10-year anniversary with a party on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport hotel. The 10th Anniversary Celebration was a chance for board members, as well as local businesses and government officials to look back on the Gateway to Milwaukee’s past 10 years, and how it has helped to shape the airport district into a thriving business/industrial area. Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman Terry Witkowski, Commissioner of the Department of City Development (Milwaukee), Rocky Marcoux, and Commissioner of the Department of Public Works (Milwaukee), Ghassan Korban were all present. They shared their congratulations and appreciation for all of the progress that the Gateway to Milwaukee has made to the city’s South Side, as well as receiving an award for all of their dedication and support for the past ten years.
Four of our board members: President, Gregg Lindner, Vice President, Jaime Maliszewski, Board Director, Samer Abulughod, and Board Director, Dimitri Dimitropoulos have been with us since the beginning. They have done so much to help the Gateway to Milwaukee to evolve and grow to become a strong ally for businesses in the airport area, through its various community-based initiatives. They were awarded with an engraved clock that symbolizes their time, commitment and dedication to the Gateway to Milwaukee.
A huge thank you to Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport for hosting the event, and for their generous in-kind donations; we truly appreciate it!
Our 10th Anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate all that we’ve accomplished in the past 10 years, and to also look ahead to where we are going in the next ten years. “The success in the area, as well as future challenges, are what motivate the Gateway to Milwaukee to continuously improve every aspect of what we do” says Leif Otteson, Executive Director. The Gateway to Milwaukee will continue its efforts in 2016 and beyond, to make the airport area a safe, beautiful, and fun place to live and work!
