Joy Global Expands Into Aerotropolis Area
It was recently announced that Joy Global Inc., an international manufacturer of mining equipment, will be expanding into a 300,000 sf property in Oak Creek, WI. The new facility is on Howell Ave and is only 6 miles south of General Mitchell International Airport, 14 miles from the Port of Milwaukee’s marine docks, is adjacent to freight rail lines, and is only 1 mile east of Interstate 94. Joy Global’s expansion comes after months of volatile stock performance and uncertainty in the global mining industry, so the question is why would the company choose to expand in the Aerotropolis area?
Consider that the use of the new facility will be to distribute parts and components to customers and service centers throughout the world. It will be connected as one of many distribution centers in a sophisticated international logistics supply chain.
As the company said in a statement, “The Oak Creek location near the airport and interstate highway offers great access to transportation networks and allows Joy Global to provide best-in-class direct service to its customers.”
Despite international economic forces and stock volatility, the Aerotropolis area still presented infrastructure and locational advantages that made development attractive to an international company. Building off of developments like this will bring more international companies to Southeastern Wisconsin and advance our regional economy. The Gateway to Milwaukee is proud to support Aerotropolis Milwaukee and welcomes the Joy Global expansion into our area.
