Gateway to Milwaukee

* The project stretches 35 miles between the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee, through Racine and Kenosha counties to the Illinois state line.

* The $1.9 billion project will expand the interstate to four lanes in each direction and reconstruct 17 interchanges.

* Construction began in 2009 and will be complete in 2016.

* The project is trying to eliminate left lane exits known as scissor ramps.
